The Shortwave Log Suite of Applications

Shortwave Log was released in 1990 as a logging program for MS-DOS. Through the years, more and more functionality has been added. Today Shortwave Log consists of the following applications:

Shortwave Log, the original logging application
Radio Control Server, control over two dozen receivers
RCS Remote, a web application that allows remote control via the Internet
Audio Recording & Scheduler, make recordings of broadcasts

Shortwave Log runs under the following versions of Windows with the latest service pack:

Windows 2000
Windows XP (32-bit)
Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)
Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Download Build 3441

The build number simply denotes the number of days since 1/1/2000. It is an easy way to number new builds.

Technical Overview

Shortwave Log is built using Microsoft techologies such as the .NET Framework 2.0, C#, IIS, IE, and SQL Sever 2005 Express. There is no support or plans for any other platforms. It is such a joy to program for .NET.

System Requirements

Shortwave Log has quite modest requirements. Any computer running Windows XP or Vista with at least 512 MB of RAM and a 1.0 GHz or higher processor is sufficient. Shortwave Log also runs in virtual machines such as VMWare, VirtualBox, and Parallels. The application does not run under Wine.

SQL Server 2008 Support

Shortwave Log has been updated to work with SQL Server 2008. The installation package still uses SQL Server 2005 because the new SQL Server 2008 would require several Windows components to be upgraded, and those upgrades that are not necessary for what Shortwave Log. Eventually support for SQL Server 2005 will be dropped (as will support for XP), but that time has not yet come.
